Project: Supplying oak for cottage restoration, Chivery, 20th June 2008

The complete restoration of an eighteenth century cottage in the area required green oak for the construction of 5 new roof trusses.

Seasoned oak was also needed for beams, lintels and floor repairs throughout.

Tie beams were to be,"as bent and full of character as possible". So a particularly, 'poorly-formed' oak tree had to be selected in a wood just 200 metres from the cottage.

The owners were able to watch the tree being felled, milled and delivered to their door.

Well-seasoned oak and hornbeam was supplied from stock.
